Cathie Ryan is a singer, musician, and educator. She is an excellent songwriter as well.
Ryan was born in the United States, first generation daughter of immigrants from Ireland/ She’s spent time living in both countries. In addition to writing her own songs, often. she chooses to sing songs from Ireland, both English and Irish language ones.
...and at times Ryan finds songs from her contemporaries that move her to which she wishes to bring her own voice.
Walk the Road is one of those. It was written by Kate Rusby, who comes from Yorkshire in the north of England. Ryan chose the title of the album on which you will find it recorded, Through Wind and Rain, from the words of the song. Rusby joins in on backing vocals.
It is a song filled with hope; that is one of the thingns which drew Cathie Ryan to it. She well knows how to respect and how to frame and share the story in the lyrics.
Reminders of hope are always helpful; just now they may be especially timely.
May Ryan’s singing of Walk the Road help you as you make your way along your own roads.
